Bitcoin Needs More Investor Flows

With Trump in the White House, it’s best not to be short on Bitcoin, as we saw on Sunday. One post on X.com saw a surge in crypto (Ali will cover this in more depth below). Yet the state of the Bitcoin chart today is the same as it was a week ago. The 30-day MA is still falling, and the price is yet to surpass it. We need more Trump Tweets.

More importantly, Bitcoin needs more investor flows. The big moves over the past two years were assisted by ETF inflows, and they have turned negative. It’s not massive, but negative, and that is unhelpful to this bull market.

No doubt, investors will be back, but we have created this new chart, which shows you where they have gone. Just as last week saw record outflows from the Bitcoin ETFs in a single week, the gold ETFs had a record inflow. This new chart compares Bitcoin and Gold ETF flows in USD, i.e. on a like-for-like basis. Just as investors have tired of Bitcoin, they have started to embrace gold.

That points to a period of risk-OFF, which will no doubt be tempered by support from the White House. The point is 2025 won’t be plain sailing for crypto, and crypto breadth, here in USD, remains as dead as a doormouse. That needs to improve.
